I first started lifting weights consistently when I was about 15. I am 28 years old now and over the years I have sustained several minor injuries from the wear and tear of life, and my various roles in acting. Injuries can sneak up on you if you don’t have a proper regimen to combat them. I have found the best way for me to do this is to incorporate calisthenics into my daily routine. There are lots of benefits to calisthenics, but here are some that you may not know.
Improve your flexibility- Most body weight exercises involve an extended movement amplitude. Meaning the movements are fully extended which results in building strength without losing flexibility. For example: Burpees, Pull ups, Push Ups, and Jumping Rope to name a few.
Develop Coordination- With calisthenics you're not only improving your strength, but also coordination. Most calisthenic movements require the cooperation of different body parts. By incorporating some Planks, V Ups, Dips, or Hanging Leg raises, you can work on your body’s motor skills which makes all other related movements much easier.
Convenience- As you probably know by now with calisthenics YOU ARE YOUR GYM! Whether you have a gym membership or not and want to save some money, remember that you do not need a bunch of fancy equipment to get in shape. There are plenty of workouts you can do using your own body weight and very little space which also maximizes time efficiency.
